Webcam Service From Microsoft

By: Children Trundle. The occurrence and development of electronic means of communication brought about a very useful tool – the webcam, whose role is to make real conversation and seeing each other at the same time possible. The MSN webcam, as it is the case with all the other webcam models, consists of a video capturing device which is connected to computers or computer networks. It often uses USB or, if it connects to networks, it relies on the ethernet or the Wi-Fi. The big advantage of the MSN webcam is that it has flexible applications and the low manufacturing costs.

The history of the webcam and, indirectly that of the MSN webcam, started in 1991 when the first such camera, called the CoffeeCam, was installed in the computer science department at Cambridge University. This camera was on until August 22, 2001.

Another veteran webcam that still works is FogCam at San Francisco University, used since 1994. Older webcam designs were mounted on the computer as separate devices. The new webcam models incorporated the video capturing devices in the desktop or laptop screens, reducing the need for USB, cables and wi-fi. Therefore, the use of a MSN webcam has become a more comfortable and relaxed experience than it has ever been.

What can you use an MSN webcam for? This question has lots of answers. It actually serves for both personal and public purposes. Given the fact that the webcam features have been added to instant messaging text chat services such as AOL Instant Messenger, one-to-one live video communication online is now accessible to millions of computer users worldwide. New features among which lighting, real-time enhancements (retouching, wrinkle smoothing and vertical stretch) make users more comfortable, therefore increasing its popularity. Features and performance differ between programs. For instance, programs like Skype, iChat, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live, Stickam or Camfrog, all have videoconferencing support.

Another function besides the videoconferencing is the possibility to see real life images from cameras in different parts of the world. An educator can use an MSN webcam as a didactic material for a virtual trip.

The first part of the word webcam is simply technical. Nowadays there are millions of webcams capturing instances from homes, buildings, offices or cities and the countryside. Webcams become useful to monitor traffic with TraffiCams, weather changes with WeatherCams and even volcanoes with VolcanoCams. Webcam aggregators will also enable users to search for particular webcams, based on geography or other criteria.
