Creative And Unconventional Uses Of Chain Roller Conveyor

by Simon Stylles

Chain Drive Roller systems are ideal for moving bulky and heavy packages, such as palletised goods. The chain-driven roller conveyor is the “four wheel drive” of the roller conveyor world! The chain-driven roller is all about power and traction. They use a stick-slip resistance technology which eliminates the slipping because of the low coefficient of friction. Hence, they are used to move very bulky and heavy packages like moving construction loads.

In a chain roller conveyor, the motor is connected by a chain which connects through a pair of drive rollers. Each Roller is connected to the other by a chain and sprocket layout. This arrangement ensures that no roller can ’slip’ under load, and gives positive drive to all of the rollers on the bed simultaneously.

Chain roller conveyor has a centrally mounted single strand of roller chain. The roller chain drives the belt and supports the belt along the upper load carrying run of the belt. It is still possible to create an accumulation system with this technique, merely requiring that the roller bed be divided into separate sections, each with its own drive motor and suitable sensors.

At medium weights and package size, it is still possible to have bends and loops, but these become increasingly impractical and expensive as weight/size increases. Instead, a right-angle transfer station or turntable can be used to accomplish the same effect.

Chain Roller Conveyor, including its parts like sprockets, pins, rollers and, sleeves or plates, can be made from carbon steel, stainless steel and plastic. Steel parts used should have high tenacity and normally they go through the process of controlled rolling for high toughness and strength. The choice of the material used in manufacture depends on the type of application.

A conveyor application used in the construction industry would be completely different than the one used in a chemical industry or a furnace. For bakery or vulcanizing operations the chain rollers has to withstand high levels of heat. In a freezing plant the conditions are just the opposite.

Belt Conveyor is the traditional belt system for general warehousing, sortation and logistics. Gravity Roller Conveyor is Simple, economical unpowered roller system, typically used in warehouse environments. A Line-Drive conveyor is similar to a chain conveyor but it is used for light packages because it can make products ’slip’. The most common feature for this conveyor is for accumulation since it can be blended into angles easily.

Chain Drive Roller Conveyors is called as the “Big Daddy” of roller conveyor systems. It is used for transporting heavy or bulky items or pallets. Chain Drive Belt Conveyors are the belt equivalent of the Chain Driven Roller Conveyor. It is used for very large or heavy-duty conveyors. Accumulation Conveyor facilitate packaging or handling, or merely prevent the load from falling off the end of the belt and onto the floor.

Wire Mesh Conveyors are a lightweight variant of the chain-mesh conveyor, useful when the products need to be drained, or to have warm/cool air circulated around them. For Indoor purpose, Plastic Conveyors are the best choice. They can be used for food packaging and suite all weather conditions. They provide a high level of cleanliness and are easy to maintain.

Customized your needs of Chain roller conveyor with the manufacture first and have a good research done before making your investment decision. And remember that all conveyors and related products have to conform to the standards set by the Government and the National Association of Conveyor Manufacturers.
